Top Ten Things to Do Besides Using Technology

We all spend so much time today using our electronic devices (me included).  I can easily spend hours on the computer and not even realize how much time has passed me by.  So, today, I would like to post the top ten things to do that don't require an electronic device.

10.  Host a technology free snack party with your friends.  This is not only fun but a challenge as well.  Your friend come over and everyone puts their cells phone into a basket.  Then you play games, watch a movie, munch on some snacks. The first person who checks their phone, before the party is over, pays for the snacks.  This is one you want to clear with your parents first.

9.  Walk your dog.  How many times do your parents have to ask you to walk the dog?  Well, how about surprising your parents and actually volunteer to walk the dog without being asked?  Bring a friend or sibling along for some good conversation along the way.  Walk around the neighborhood and notice the architecture, the landscape, the different cars your neighbors drive.  Catch up with the latest news with your friend or family.  And your dog will love the change of scenery and the exercise is good for humans and pets.

8.  Get creative. Draw in a sketch book, Make a painting or clay sculpture. Make greeting cards for your friend's birthday.  You are only limited by your imagination.

7. Cook dinner for your family.  Pull out the cookbook and select a healthy recipe.  Ask your parents to pick-up the ingredients at the store and plan to cook dinner for the family on a special day of the week.  A day when everyone will be home for dinner together.  Your first time may not be equal to gourmet status but the more you practice the better your cooking will taste. Who knows, maybe you will find a new hobby.  Or a career!

6.  Take a nap. You'd be surprised how refreshing a mid-day siesta can be.  With our days filled with stress it means a great deal to close our eyes and shut off our minds for an hour or two.  You will awaken feeling refreshed and ready to tackle homework, chores, or anything else that has to be accomplished.

5.  Go to the mall.  If time (and money) permit, walking around the mall is not only good exercise but allows you to see the latest styles and sales.  It's fun to be out and if you can go on a weekday the crowds are small.

4. Exercise.  Studies show that people who exercise are generally happier.  Exercise releases chemicals in the brain that produce good feelings.  This is what they are talking about when they refer to a "runner's high".  Exercise can be as simple as a walk, a run, jumping rope, playing basketball or any number of other activities.

3. Have a beauty day. Have a beauty day with your girlfriends or just by yourself.  Do you nails, put on some makeup, fix your hair and experiment with you "look".

2.  Shop your closet.  Sometimes we throw things in our closet and forget them.  Look inside your closet and see what you find.  Match up outfits to wear during the week and have your wardrobe ready to go, saving time in the morning.  Find things to sell on ebay or donate to charity.

1.  READ. This one is pretty obvious but it's my favorite.  Reading is great, especially before bedtime.  You should put away the phone and turn off the computer at least one hour before bedtime.  Instead, settle down with a good book.
